Cuna de Cervantes donde el Cardenal Cisneros fundara la célebre Universidad Complutense en recuerdo al nombre “complutum” que los romanos dieran a ese lugar.

Monasterio de El Escorial
Mirando al oeste, se encuentra la puerta principal en el lado mayor. 207 m. de un edificio construido por Felipe II entre 1563 y 1584, es decir, un poco más de 20 años, todo un récord para la época. Con 2.593 ventanas, 1.200 puertas, 300 celdas para frailes, 86 fuentes, 16 patios, 1.600 cuadros y pinturas de
Velázquez, Tizziano, Tintoretto, El Bosco, etc…
Pretendió ser un centro científico y artístico de carácter universal para lo que reunió la más grande biblioteca de su tiempo: quiso también que fuera el panteón donde se enterrara a los reyes y reinas de España, desde su padre y su madre, Carlos V e Isabel de Portugal, hasta nuestros días. La biblioteca, el panteón, el patio de los reyes, de los evangelistas, la sacristía y un largo etc, que impresiona por sus volúmenes y su grandeza a cuantos la visitan.

Escorial Monastery
Oriented to the west, we find the main entrance in the greater side. 207 meters of a building built by Felipe II between 1563 and 1584, that is to say, little more than 20 years, a record for its time.
With 2.593 windows, 1.200 doors, 300 cells for friars, 86 fountain, 26 courtyards, 1.600 tables and paintings of Velázquez, Tiziano, Tintoretto, The Bosco, etc. Felipe II meant it to be a scientific and artistic centre of universal character and that he gathered the largest library of time. He wanted it also to be a pantheon for the kings and queens of Spain, starting with his father and his mother, Carlos V and Isabel of Portugal, in a tradition kept until our days. The library, the pantheon, the courtyard of the kings, of the Evangelists, the sacristy and much more, that impresses by its majestically and greatness everyone that visits them.

Real Sitio de Aranjuez
Al sur de Madrid, en los meandros del río Tajo, en una región de valles y colinas surcados por los ríos Jarama, Tajuña y el mismo Tajo, una tierra fértil y un delicioso clima convierten el paisaje en un oasis de verdor en el que a partir del palacio que los caballeros de Santiago poseían, los Reyes Católicos construyeron una casa de recreo.
Fue Carlos V el primero en residir aquí algunas temporadas y Felipe II construyó en el s.XVI un gran palacio que después irían ampliando y engrandeciendo los reyes de la dinastía Borbón hasta lograr ese precioso conjunto formado por jardines, río, trazado de calles y arboleda.

Royal site of Aranjuez
To the south of Madrid, in the meanders of the Tajo river, in the valleys and hills region cut by the rivers Jarama, Tajuña and the Tajo itself, a fertile land and a delicious climate turn the landscape into a green oasis in which, starting with a palace that the gentlemen of Santiago had there, Catholic Kings built a house of
recreation.
It was Carlos V the first in living here some seasons and his son Felipe II built in the century XVI a great palace that after would go widening and enlarging by the kings of the Bourbon’s dynasty creating a precious group formed by gardens, river, traced of streets and grove.

El Paular
En Rascafría, en plena sierra y en un bello y tranquilo lugar está el Monasterio de El Paular. Bosques, agua, fauna…
Desde mediados del siglo XIV hasta el siglo XVI, con Carlos V, los diferentes reyes de Castilla de la casa Trastamara, concedieron privilegios y realizaron donaciones a favor de los frailes Cartujos que allí instaló Juan I en 1630, en cumplimiento de una promesa de su padre Enrique II. Pero cuentan que fue Carlos I quien tuvo especial predilección por este lugar.
Habitado en la actualidad por la orden benedictina, continua siendo un precioso remanso de paz.
Podríamos continuar con monumentos, lugares fantásticos de Madrid, su sierra, sus pueblos… y muy cerca, colindantes, están Ávila, Segovia, Toledo, Cuenca…

El Paular
In Rascafría, in full “sierra” and in a beautiful and quiet place is the Monastery of the Paular. Forests, water fauna… Mid of the XIV century until the XVI century, with Carlos V, the different kings of Castille of the house of Trastamara, conceded privileges and accomplished gifts in favour of the Carthusian friars that there installed Juan I in 1330, in fulfilment of a promise of his father Enrique II. But it was Carlos V who special had predilection by this place. Habited at present by the Benedictine order, is a peaceful environment.
We could continue with monuments and fantastic places of Madrid, its sierra, its villages… but very near, they are also other interesting places like Ávila, Segovia, Toledo,Cuenca,…
